These Texans are kickstarting the ‘cannabis revolution’

Cannabis is a hot topic in Texas. From attempts to reel in the booming hemp-derived cannabinoid space to decriminalization efforts in cities across the state, the plant is on many people’s minds. Another thing Texans like? Freedom. With that in mind, one San Antonio-based cannabis company is bringing things full circle.

On Saturday, March 1st, Alamo Bud Company is hosting the Texas Cannabis Revolution Party at Tandem coffee shop in San Antonio. The event coincides with Texas Independence Day the following day when Texans celebrate their 1836 declaration of independence from Mexico.

The 21-and-up gathering is equal parts plant celebration and social protest. With an agenda filled with music, education, advocacy, and, of course, consumption, organizers hope the historic fete will amplify a call to action to free the plant.

Alamo Bud Company co-founder Kevin Martinez had a vision for the “cannabis revolution” as soon as the company’s 2024 launch. The event was written in the stars as the brand’s name itself is a nod to the infamous battleground that shaped the Texas Revolution.

“The idea of the party was to try to do it during the actual Texas Revolution and have a nod to that mentality that we, as Texans, had back then, trying to gain independence and also mirrored at the same time the current climate of what’s happening with cannabis right now,” Martinez told GreenState.

Freedom for the plant isn’t the only thing Martinez and his colleagues will be celebrating this weekend. Alamo Bud Company is set to soft launch its first brick-and-mortar location, taking the THC retail and wholesale provider from the World Wide Web to the real world.

And while the launch is in and of itself is exciting, Martinez said the thing he is most looking forward to for the Texas Cannabis Revolution Party is the chance to learn. He’s invited several local cannabis professionals including attorneys, doctors, and legislation advocates to hold a question and answer. The idea is to ensure the local cannabis community has accurate and accessible information—and hopefully, kickstart the revolution.

“Yes, there’s going to be fun. There are going to be canna-focused and wellness brands and the venue is okay with consumption on-site. But the education part of it—I think that’s going to be the coolest part,” Martinez concluded.
