Cannabis dispensaries in Jamaica NY FAQ
Who can purchase cannabis in Jamaica, NY?
There are two ways to purchase cannabis in New York City. The first is to apply for a medical cannabis card, which enables those dealing with medical conditions to purchase medical cannabis and cannabis-derived products. The second is to bring a valid state-issued ID to a recreational cannabis dispensary and purchase your products, so long as you are over the age of 21.
The Marihuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA), signed into law in 2021, governs the purchase, possession, and use of cannabis in New York City, so refer to it when you need to learn about possession limits or travel laws.
Is it legal in NY to drive after consuming recreational cannabis?
According to the MRTA, it is not legal to operate a motor vehicle after consuming cannabis. You may not consume cannabis while inside a motor vehicle either. It is legal to transport the legal possession amount (3 oz. flower or bud, 24 grams concentrated cannabis) within a vehicle so long as the cannabis is safely stored, stowed away, and out of sight. If you are apprehended while driving under the influence of cannabis in New York you may be charged with a DUI.
What is a THC concentrate?
A THC concentrate is a hyper-concentrated version of cannabis that is rich in THC. It is often called wax, butter, or honey, given its gooey, paste-like texture. It is created by separating the cannabis trichomes from plant material. It is consumed using a vape pen or through a process called dabbing, where the concentrate is heated and the smoke that is produced is inhaled. The hit is much stronger, so THC concentrate use is not recommended for cannabis newcomers.
How much recreational cannabis can I purchase at one time in NY?
The New York State Office of Cannabis Management holds that adults 21 years or older are permitted to purchase up to 3 oz. (85 grams) of solid bud or flower, or up to 24 grams of cannabis concentrate (oils, tinctures, vapes, etc.) at one time. The same amounts carry over to the possession limits.
