Emerald Triangle event evolves weed festival expectations

The number of cannabis events has climbed steadily, with legalization spreading across the nation. But with a packed agenda and a focus on the plant fam, none are quite like Cannifest.

The cannabis contest meets festival is a celebration of legacy culture in the heart of the Emerald Triangle. Held at Halvorsen Waterfront Park in Eureka, Calif., on Sept. 7th and 8th, Cannifest is all about honoring the plant and putting the community at the forefront.

“Cannifest is more than a festival or a trade show in our eyes—it’s a place where the community can feel safe and accepted,” said Lori Cosgrove, co-founder of Cannifest.

“UNITY is our theme this year, and I’ve seen that action expressed dozens of times already: sponsors joining forces to share resources, contractors reaching out and offering their services in hopes of creating a collaborative event with a focus on celebrating the culture that our area is so heavily steeped in.”

Cannifest schedule offers endless plant-based fun

The Cannifest agenda is chock full of opportunities to connect, learn, and, of course, sesh.

The central Headstash Competition will feature a panel of esteemed judges and the community itself. Last year, the best-in-show prize went to Canna Country Farms for their unique #26 strain, and the competition for this year’s award will likely be fierce. For folks wanting to test their skills without entering the contest, the Grow and Ganja games will feature rolling competitions, soil bag stacking, and more.

The Counterculture History Coalition is curating a dynamic educational exhibit dedicated to the plant. A live art wall will express the emotion and passion within the community as it evolves over the weekend. Healing modalities, classes, and movement workshops will be curated by Omboldt to help keep guests grounded. A maker’s market and glass fair features a wide range of handmade products, art, and heady pipes.

Sunday kicks off with the all-ages Yes We Cann! community parade, a (free) opportunity for the whole community to come together. Participants can showcase their businesses, non-profits, families, friends, and employees with decorated bikes, floats, and tractors.

The festival also features plenty of live music to keep the vibes high. Lettuce, Oteil & Friends featuring Melvin Seals, Steve Kimock, Jason Crosby, Johnny Kimock, Tom Guarna & Lamar Williams Jr., The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Mendo Dope, and many more are slated to appear across several different stages.

“This year’s talent lineup showcases legendary musicians who have brought joy to so many on stage —we are delighted to offer this outlet and just be part of the creative energy!” Cosgrove exclaimed.

Attendees coming from the Bay Area can ride north in style via the Roast n’ Toast tour, which includes stops at a licensed pot farm, a dispensary, and an infused luncheon. For those wanting the ultimate experience, the Surf n Terp VIP Dinner is a great addition to your weekend experience and includes an infused multi-course menu.

Tickets for Cannifest are still available, but attendees are encouraged to act fast so they don’t miss out on the fun. With so many unique experiences and entertainment choices, from pop-up contests to the main stage, it’s a must-attend for anyone and everyone who loves the plant.

“Cannifest is showing us all what’s possible when we work together and elevate each other—now more than ever, it’s the time!” Cosgrove concluded.
