New cannabis device disrupts widely used tech

Vape pens are an entry point for many new cannabis consumers. Stressed moms and corporate workers on the go both turn to these products. People who love 510-threaded vape cartridges often want to avoid smelling too dank but seek something that kicks in quickly. When it comes to choosing what battery powers the cart, that’s when it is time to show some personality.

I have a few favorite 510-threaded vape pens, from my dialed stealthy HIGH-LIGHTER to my O.pen mushroom-themed simple option. The Zone OPTO may enter the winner’s circle, bringing one-touch temp changes, epic functional storage, and other consumer-driven bells and whistles to the table.
All about the Zone OPTO vape battery
This luxurious vape pen battery is fitted solely for 510-threaded cartridges and comes in Black, Blue, Red, and Fusion colorways. Fusion is an ombre of pink to indigo. Off the jump, I was impressed because a charging dock comes in the OPTO box. The whole lot runs $59.

The dock does not solely charge the battery—it holds it upright so that the vape cart is stored properly. Don’t worry, there is a charging port on the bottom of the unit as well. If you lose the dock, you can still charge the battery. The charging dock is not new to weed vapes, Vessel also has one for its pens that works the same.
OPTO adds to this excellent storage touch with a clear polycarbonate cover. Hence, the pen tip remains unbothered by the surrounding air. As someone with four shedding pets, I am thankful for that. The case is clear but has a window to the battery information (provided there isn’t a cart on the pen).
The battery life is measured hit-by-hit on the OLED screen, so a dead vape pen is rarely a surprise. This screen also indicates what voltage I’ll be vaping at. I selected a Sub-X Sunset Sherbet cartridge from my local (promised-to-be) pesticide-free dispensary for the experiment. Once acquired, it was time to get vaping.

How to use the Zone OPTO
Like most vaporizers, the Zone OPTO works with a series of button pushes:
- Power on with five presses
- Start and stop the second preheat cycle with three presses
- Change power mode with two presses
- Reset the puff counter by pressing and holding the button down
There are three icons on the OLED screen. The top graphic indicates which of the three power modes is activated. Control over voltage could help you get the most from your vape cart as long as you understand the kind of oil inside. Zone took an experiential approach to voltage settings, using cute images to indicate what the vapor may taste and look like.
One of three graphics shows up at the top of the LED display at a time. The droplet is Vapor Mode, a setting that creates the most profound cloud without getting too hot. A groove pilot helmet is shown when the OPTO is in Zone Mode for a balance of flavor and vapor density. The lowest temperature setting will show a citrus fruit. Flavor mode maximizes terpenes, which burn off at lower temps than cannabinoids. This is touted as the smoothest vapor.
In the middle of the vertical graphics, a number inside a battery shows how many puffs are left until the unit dies. There is a cloud on the bottom with a number inside stating how many puffs have been taken. I’m looking forward to using this for tracking what kind of mileage I get from this new vape cartridge.

Zone OPTO review: get in the Zone
I had an excellent experience trying out this vape battery. Clicking through each functionality was simple once I got the clicks down, and the screen makes the whole thing easier. There is a lot of button pressing to get the temperatures set and pre-heat if you want, but when it comes to draw there is no clicking required. Pull in, and then exhale for a proper hit. They are not lying about the vapor cloud quality, nor are there fibs regarding flavor. Each setting is tweaked appropriately for the promised experience.
This vape battery makes me feel at the height of my tech game. This section of my weed kit is now closed for entries—the winner has been chosen. But maybe I am just a sucker for cute graphics.
In all seriousness, this is not a new style of 510-threaded battery. However, in the world of weed-specific vapes, the Zone OPTO brings an elevated level of sleek technology to the table. Aside from the visual experience, I’m looking forward to getting some data about my vape consumption with the puff tracker. Those who want to level up their pull-and-go vape pen setup might not regret splurging on this user-friendly option.
