With literally hundreds of weed varieties to choose from, it can be difficult to decide what to smoke and what to pass on. This is especially true if you consume throughout the day and may need varying effects depending on the occasion. That’s certainly the case for me, as I crave bud that will leave me feeling chill yet productive without racing thoughts. The Grape Gas strain ticks those boxes and is blazing a trail to becoming perfect daytime toke.

I’ve tried several variations of Grape Gas, each one providing the perfect pick-me-up. For this review, I focused on flower from SOG Army, a licensed producer with operations in California and Mississippi.

I’m not the only one who agrees Grape Gas is the perfect daily driver. Several online reviews agree, with numerous positive threads dedicated to the strain. What makes Grape Gas so special? For me, it was the total package.

Grape Gas genetics are the best of both worlds

Grape Gas is a cross between Grape Pie and Jet Fuel Gelato. While technically a hybrid cannabis strain, SOG Army bills their phenotype as a straight indica. It’s unknown who was the first to breed Grape Gas, but True Canna Genetics and Compound Genetics have both been credited.

The Grape Gas family tree has several notable members. The iconic Bay Area strain F1 Durban (a parent of GSC) shows up a few times on the genetic map, along with East Coast legend Sour Diesel. Other Grape Gas ancestors include OG Kush and Super Skunk.

With so many big-name strains in its lineage, Grape Gas was bound to be a star. But the variety stands out on its own thanks to its delicious complex flavor and easygoing effects.

Grape Gas strain terpenes provide sweet creamy taste

Grape Gas is known for its sweet berry notes with hints of acrid diesel. When I cracked the SOG Army jar, I was immediately hit with a creamy vanilla aroma reminiscent of pound cake batter. The gas didn’t reveal itself until the bud was ground, the dough scent was far more prevalent.

Lighting up some Grape Gas in a glass pipe, the smoke is a milky treat with layers of fruit and fuel, leaving a smooth citrus skunk aftertaste. It was a flavor explosion that made me dream of the Thanksgiving dessert table. With that in mind, you may want to put Grape Gas on the menu for your annual Danksgiving stroll.

According to lab results, lemony limonene, floral linalool, and earthy myrcene are the dominant terpenes in SOG Army’s Grape Gas. These, combined with other minor terpenes, create the bud’s unique flavor and scent. And while the THC may be a main driver of the strain’s effects, terpenes are believed to play a big role too.

Grape Gas strain effects are cool and mild

Grape Gas is known for its relaxing and happy high. The buzz is even-keeled, giving hybrid vibes in an indica strain package.

After one hit, I felt a weight anchored behind the eyes and in my chest, making me wonder if sedation was not far off. Fortunately, I was still able to focus although distractions proved far more problematic. Typically it’s anxiety that keeps me from completing a task, but Grape Gas thankfully did not trigger my panic.

Because Grape Gas tends to have THC levels in the mid-20s range, it works well day or night. The SOG Army had 26 percent THC, a welcome departure from the 30-plus often advertised on dispensary shelves. People fail to realize that more THC does not equate to better, and that moderate cannabinoid content lets the full spectrum of active ingredients shine.
