Connecting the Dots: a passion for pre-rolls

In this month’s edition of Connecting the Dots, we are going to get into different methods of consumption. The first we are going to start with is pre-rolls. This is my preferred method of consumption.

What is a pre-roll, you ask? It is where the cannabis is already rolled into a joint or a cigarette wrapping so that one can smoke it immediately. This is something that is great for convenience and for readily sampling the product immediately. I love pre-rolls because I struggle with rolling joints; the convenience of them, the ease of use, and the effects I get make pre-rolls my preferred consumption method.

I like the dog walker-size joints. These are anywhere from .3 to .5 in size and usually come in multi-packs. I am a microdoser, so these make it easy for me to consume my medicine in small amounts throughout the day without wasting a larger joint, such as a one or 2 g joint.

Pre-rolls can be straight flower or infused for a more intense experience. Personally, I prefer just straight flower. This method of consumption, for me, is what works best. It helps me connect the dots.

One of the benefits of pre-rolls is convenience since they’re readily available and easy to use. The multi-packs are great for accessibility and price. However, some of the drawbacks of pre-rolls are many producers use the leftovers or scraps of Cannabis to make them instead of using whole flower. This becomes a quality and experience issue.

Pre-rolls are also definitely more expensive than plain flower in pre-measured sizes. Pre-rolls do not always burn evenly or properly. This is a problem, so the mini joints or dog walkers usually work better in this instance. You also don’t get to smell the product when it is packaged in a pre-roll form, which is the case for many cannabis products in different states.

When shopping for pre-rolls, one of the things you should ask the budtender is what the feedback is for this particular brand. Ask what they know about the producer. You should look up product reviews online and get feedback from your friends.

In general, pre-rolls work great for a lot of people, and they continue to gain popularity in the industry. For consumers like me who need convenient ways to medicate, they’re perfect. However, they aren’t the only way I connect the dots; you’ll find out more in next month’s column.
