Women and weed on the agenda at the California State Fair

“I hope that bringing this series to the California State Fair and other events throughout the nation will empower women to explore cannabis and all plant medicines,” shared co-producer Patty Lanier in an email to GreenState. “We hope that this will get women more in touch with the healing power of nature; and that it will influence a deeper connection to our earth and to each other.”
What to expect at WOMEN::WEED::WELLNESS
Dr. Pepper Hernandez, a certified naturopath, nutritionist, and cannabis therapy consultant will kick off the festivities with a keynote address entitled “The Plant as Mother.” The speech will be followed by two panels highlighting the positive role cannabis can take in a woman’s life.
“Using Cannabis throughout Life’s Stages” includes testimony from Club Kindness’ Erikka Fortenberry, veterans advocate Xochitl Martinez, and Keiko Beatie, education director at Coral Cove Wellness. The speakers range in age and come from different walks of life to wholly analyze the plant’s potential throughout a lifetime.
The next panel, “The Challenges and Benefits of Cannabis and Motherhood,” features cannabis moms Danielle Simone Brand author of Weed Mom, CannaMommy Executive Director Kelley Bruce, and international family rights legal advocate Mieko Hester-Perez. Speakers will hold space on touchy topics like consumption as a mother, including during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the legal rights of birthing parents who choose to consume.
“We would love to see a beautiful marriage between Western medicine and Eastern healing modalities; plant spirituality and sacred indigenous practice,” Lanier said. “And most of all we hope for normalization, increased access, improved product safety with a focus on harm reduction for women around the world seeking remedies for everyday mental and physical health challenges.”

All the fun will culminate with three awards for Legacy Woman of the Year, Thought Mother of the Year, and Educator of the Year. The fair runs July 21 – 23rd, with WOMEN::WEED::WELLNESS starting Sunday, July 23rd at 3:00 PM, with the awards ceremony at 5:30 PM.
This women-centric addition to the state fair is momentous in that women’s health, well-being, and voices will be a prominent fixture in what has remained a male-dominated space. As more programming highlights the symbiotic relationship between the female plant and its femme stewards, it is possible more women will realize how cannabis could improve their quality of life.
