Cannabis products achieve rare, noteworthy result

weed for athletes: gummy in the clouds

Niche, trendy weed brands have come and gone over the years. Women’s wellness was a focus for some time, with dessert strains taking the stage quickly after that. As many hemp THC brands shift focus to canned drinks and seltzers to capture the canna-curious, OFFFIELD is taking a unique approach. The suite of intoxicating products taps cannabis consumers into the coveted runner’s high with weed.

OFFFIELD co-founders Tony Fur and Todd Hunter answered a few questions. They covered product development and how the brand serves the consumers.

“The ability of the endocannabinoid system to regulate inflammation and improve mood during and after exercise is the foundation of OFFFIELD’s creation,” the founders commented. “Our goal is to provide an alternative to synthetic drugs commonly used by athletes and to enhance the exercise experience for those who are either struggling or just beginning their fitness journey.”

The company did not slap “high-performance” on these packages without proper research and development. OFFFIELD thoroughly investigated the current offerings on the market before rigorously testing various formulas across multiple athletic disciplines. After finalizing the formulations, the brand released 200 to 2000 units for testing. Customers shared valued feedback in one-on-one interviews, surveys, and progress recaps during this period.

As a former college athlete clawing her way back to athletics after growing and birthing a human, I was delighted to try these gummies and drinks meant to inspire the inner athlete in all of us.

Tapping into the runner’s high with OFFFIELD

My fitness journey is in an interesting place. I stopped playing soccer in 2008 after 15 years and picked up a ten-years-and-counting yoga practice. Getting pregnant halted that journey, too. I became too nauseous to even focus on asana a week in, let alone breathe through it. This lasted almost the entire pregnancy, and birthing the child created a new slew of things to manage (like having no time).

Now, as the kid rounds into his fourth year on the planet, I am reconnecting with that young soccer player again. Lately, road runs and weight rooms are more attractive to me than yoga mats and breathwork. Right now, I’m reconnecting with my inner athlete, and OFFFIELD arrived just in time.

The brand sent me a few products to try with my new workout regimen. The kit included two high-performance sports drinks, Enhanced Energy, and High-Performance Energy gummies. Each product has a unique formulation to kick up the vibe for a solid workout. Before you try them for yourself, this is how they worked for me.

Trying OFFFIELD high-performance weed products

Running is my nemesis, but afterward, I also feel amazing. That is why I decided to use my OFFFIELD products to kickstart my practice, and I am glad I did. The serving size is two gummies, but I only ate one while testing. There is caffeine in these products, and those with heart issues may want to adjust intake accordingly before eating them before working out. That is what I did since I tend to have a few (many) cups of coffee each day. The drinks, however, are caffeine-free.

“We have discovered that a higher dose of CBD pairs well with a smaller dose of caffeine to balance the calming effects,” the founders explained. “Our gummies contain significantly more CBD per serving than our drinks, as orally ingested CBD has been shown to improve endurance and VO2 max.”

How OFFFIELD gummies impacted my mile time

I started with the Watermelon Mint gummies. 10 milligrams (mg) of Yerba Mate caffeine, three mg THC, 40 mg CBD, and 10 mg CBG are infused into two squares. This combination stirred a desire to pull my running leggings on, strap the saddlebags on my dog, and get out on the trail. This was a feat since I ate it before my first run in three weeks following a rough pulled muscle.

I was a bit nervous to get out there, but I chugged some water and hit the road, a bit jittery from the caffeine. That day, I ran about 40 minutes at a slower pace with a few sprints for good measure. Honestly, I could have continued if I wasn’t nursing an injury. After that, I took my other dog for a cool-down walk, getting back almost two hours after eating the high-performance gummy. I had no residual haziness and did not feel high at all at that point.

The Honeydew Melon gummy was equally positive, especially since I ate it during the luteal phase of my hormone cycle–a time when I rarely want to exercise. This formulation calls upon the caffeine power of matcha. But before the matcha flavor haters file in, there is no matcha in the taste–expect all melon there. Anyway, this gummy made my forehead tingle, and my teeth clench around eight minutes in. It settled more evenly than the yerba mate caffeine for me, but still had a little shake as it kicked in.

I got spun into chores and family things and ended up not hitting the trail for an hour post-gummy. The 50 mg CBD, eight mg CBG, and 15 mg matcha caffeine still worked, though. It also made me feel very little to no psychoactive high, making it a solid option for those sneaking in a midday workout who cannot be inebriated afterward.

OFFFIELD Drinks

My mile time improved that day, and I’m excited to see how these products might support me in continuing that upward trajectory. As for the drinks, they brought me straight back to my days chugging Gatorade.

I chose to crack open the non-carbonated cans after my workouts as a recovery to help me parent despite fatigue. They are also valid as pre-workout bevvies. The drinks contain 100 mg L-theanine, five mg THC, 10 mg CBD, 10 mg CBG, and loads of electrolytes.

They both made me feel less beat up from the physical activities I completed before drinking them, but I definitely have a favorite. The Dragonfruit Lemonade flavor was good, but I absolutely loved the classic Lime. It brought me right back to drinking yellow Gatorade after soccer practice.

I loved all the OFFFIELD products I tried and will continue incorporating them into my lifestyle. These are not just for athletes. They are for anyone moving their body, from weight training to hiking.

Giving new meaning to “high” performance

Gummies, drinks, or both–these products are a delightful treat. Physically inclined stoners, athletes who don’t get drug tested, and anyone curious about high-performance weed will love them. I can’t help but think up all of the fun uses in my growing list of activities.

OFFFIELD has created a line that brings this former athlete hope as I crawl back to achieve my previously-attained stamina, skill, and glory. Though, after being nutmegged in an over-30 soccer league, I’m not sure that’s possible with gummies alone. My ego challenges aside, I’m thankful to live in a time when high-performance gummies exist.
