Cannabis reigns supreme in this Arizona city ripe with weed parties

The ‘Five C’s’ refer to five factors crucial to the Arizona economy: copper, cattle, cotton, citrus, and climate. Many are wondering when cannabis will be in the mix as the post-legalization years pass. The price per gram may be falling, but events like ExtravaGanja from Tucson Doobie continue bringing the community together.

Tucson Doobie is the sister of Tucson Foodie, a publication covering the city’s restaurants and local flavors. Tucson Doobie follows the same goal–but with weed. Tomorrow, the next installment of ExtravaGanja is back, this time at the Stellar Lounge.

“The goal of an ExtravaGanja is truly to build community,” Tucson Doobie co-CEO Chrissy Mance shared with GreenState. “I understand the need for social interaction, how important it is to feel a sense of belonging to a greater good, and I enjoy planning events that bring people together, united by shared interest or just the inherent human desire to belong.”

ExtravaGanja pops up in rotating, consumption-friendly venues. Dispensary partners showcase products to potentially new customers, and consumers enjoy a night out with fellow stoners, entertainment, and good eats.

House DJ DocZion, also an advocate for veteran cannabis access, will spin records for guests as they play games, explore vendor wares, or munch on tasty food. Each event has personalized activations like comedy acts, live Twitch streaming, apothecary classes, and drag performances.

This month, the meat-forward comfort food experts at Big Sexy’s Wings and Thangs are pulling up to provide sustenance. The menu includes Frito pie, hot dogs with chili, chicken wings, and an array of fried sides. Come hungry or grab products from dispensary sponsors Nature Med, Sol Flower, and D2 Dispensaries to build an appetite.

The event series kicked off in tandem with the launch of the Tucson Doobie mobile app in April. Join for $10 monthly and get free entry to ExtravaGanja parties and up to $8000 in free weed. ExtravaGanja tickets are $15 for nonmembers.

Getting that $8000 in rewards is easy, too. Redeem a voucher in-app at the dispensary, and the budtender will remove it from the bill. It is one of the simpler reward systems in the American weed world– and it comes with built-in parties.

ExtravaGanja is only one of many Tucson Doobie events. Stoney Suppers, a five-course fine dining experience, will also return soon. There is also the Halloweed Block Party and infused yoga brunch Stoney Salutations at the DUSK Music Festival to look forward to. These events all have one goal: gathering locals in the name of weed.

“Most of all, I want our members to feel a sense of belonging. We’ve created a fun little community, and I can’t wait to see it grow,” Mance concluded.
