The Museum of Weed set to open in Los Angeles this week
Californians will now be able to educate themselves on the history of cannabis with the help of a museum.
The popular dispensary search engine Weedmaps is unveiling their Museum of Weed pop-up in Los Angeles this weekend, reports Thrillist.
“Our goal with the Weedmaps Museum of Weed is to demystify cannabis and its role in society, and to draw attention to the impact prohibition of cannabis has had on various social groups in the US and beyond,” said Chris Beals, CEO of Weedmaps, in a press release.

According to the museum’s official website, the 30,000 square foot museum will hold interactive exhibits meant to tell the story of “growers, stoners, and activists who expanded knowledge of the plant and kept the cannabis movement alive despite decades of government prohibition and propaganda.”
The exhibits will detail cannabis throughout several eras, from pre-prohibition, “reefer madness” and the counterculture revolution, all the way to the failed war on drugs and current law reform. It’ll also explore social justice issues surrounding weed and how medicinal use helped change its reputation in America.
Despite the theme, no actual cannabis will be sold on site. Weed-related merchandise will be for sale at a gift shop, however.

“The Weedmaps Museum of Weed will combine all the immersive elements you’d expect to find in the world’s finest museums across multiple categories, including cultural, fine art, and natural history,” added Beals.
The Musuem of Weed opens this Saturday, August 3, and will remain open until September 29.
Tickets can be purchased online for $35 each.
