Cannabis fitness reaches new highs in NYC

Cannabis and exercise have been partnered in many spaces, from Ganja Yoga to Stoned and Toned online fitness courses. Studies have even supported that stoners are more active and have less body fat. Bottom line: the lazy stoner stereotype has been thrown out as of late because science shows no value to the claim. This research creates space for more offerings, like a recent marriage of weed and workouts in New York City. The program centers the LGBTQ+ community in a Pride collab so successful it will run far beyond June.

Housing Works Cannabis Co and LGBTQ+-owned SaltDrop fitness studio have partnered for Pride, crafting an inclusive approach to wellness with the SaltBurn Program. The SaltBurn Program is a 5-week fitness experience that combines the blessings of plant-based wellness available at HWCC and beat-driven, mat-based classes of SaltDrop.

“We’re committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable industry and will always keep queer culture alive while working to uplift the lives of LGBTQ+ New Yorkers,” Sasha Nutgent, retail manager of Housing Works Cannabis Co, said in a press release.

Those who join in on the fun will have access to unlimited SaltDrop live and virtual classes at a discounted rate, along with cannabis product recommendations, education, a free branded water bottle, and a swag-filled tote bag. Attend SaltDrop classes on-site at the 4th Avenue studio or online using accessible virtual options.

Every Sunday at noon, a consumption class merges everything SaltDrop offers into one elevated session. SaltDrop specialties include Sweaty Beat-Driven Movement, Dynamic & Functional Strength, and Plyometric Endurance Building. Sunday weed-infused classes were set to end June 30, but after the success of this month, they will run through July.

Housing Works, the parent nonprofit of HWCC, has been on a 30-year mission to combat HIV/AIDS and homelessness. The collaboration will benefit these efforts. 20 percent of each SaltBurn Program purchased will be donated to this advocacy work, supporting thousands of New Yorkers with healthcare and housing.

“LGBTQ+ culture is at our core. It’s one thing to take part in Pride festivities, and it’s another to actively support small and queer-owned businesses,” said Nutgent.

Get strong, sweaty, and maybe a little high with this extended Pride collab running through July.
