Innovative device provides the perfect dab
The introduction of electronic dab rigs changed how people consume concentrates, and the brand new Dr. Dabber Switch2 elegantly continues that legacy. Dr. Dabber seems set on being an individual in a space where many attempt to replicate the Puffco Peak. In its second iteration of the Switch, the brand clearly took consumer feedback and utilized in-house technology to improve.
The Switch2 costs $420 and boasts its best airflow, heating capabilities, and overall user experience. I put that to the test.

Dr. Dabber Switch2 specs
This addition to the Dr. Dabber universe is so much smaller than the first Switch–20 percent, to be exact. The size reduction is joined by a welcome sturdier setup. I easily tipped the original Switch over. This model looks a bit like a Keurig coffee maker, compact on a solid foundation. Size is not the only difference. What became smaller also became more intelligent.
The Switch2 uses an internal quartz chamber cup that can be removed for cleaning. For the best functionality, swab it after every use. It is much easier to access than the previous model. Be warned: do not take the cup out when it is hot. Customize yours with the Sapphire Induction Cup, which promises terptastic hits.
Dr. Dabber updated the stock chamber, making it three times larger and adding airflow. The chamber heats evenly from top to bottom because of these tweaks. It also helps to avoid hot spots that are impossible to clean.
Another iconic heating update comes by way of the Infrared Radiation (IR) sensor. The tiny but mighty technology manages the quartz chamber. It heats and cools to the degree, and allows users to choose whether the temps hold steady, ascend from the first hit, or descend. Descending temps simulate an analog torched dab, while sustained or even ascending temps are more of an electronic experience.
I reviewed the original Switch and enjoyed hitting it, but I had my complaints about the size and clunkiness. I know my true deliberation once a few months have gone by and a piece has either entered my regular rotation or sat on the shelf. The OG Switch sat on the shelf. However, each of my complaints has been answered, and then some. Looks like Switch2 could join the ro-ro.
My experience using Dr. Dabber Switch2
When I saw the photos of the latest Switch, I figured it would be huge and heavy. This felt like a safe assumption knowing what I did about the original. But you know what they say about assumptions, and I was definitely the donkey after this one.
The Switch2 is much smaller than I imagined but also sturdier. That is a true feat. It is easy to use, but everyone should start with the user manual to avoid making user errors that could damage the unit. After reading up and fully charging the e-rig I was ready to get to work.
I wiggled the glass diffuser and mouthpiece out of its snug home and filled it just over the percolator. Before sliding it back in, I removed the carb cap and aluminum crown nestled over the induction chamber. Swab this out or run a heat cycle before the very first use to burn or clean off any factory stuff. Then, load up the concentrates.
Unlike the Puffco, Dr. Dabber delivers an enormous chamber that can take quite a lot of product at once. While it could take an enormous amount of extract, I loaded up my usual lil’ dab-a-do to test it.
The piece turns on with a flick of the power switch on the back of it. Three LED lights above that switch indicate the battery life, three lights means that it is full. The lights pulse when the battery hits under 10 percent. Nestled under the glass, on the unit, are a branded button and two temperature controls.
Select from five preset temperatures using the Plus and Minus buttons. The Switch2 heats in five to 15 seconds.
- Setting 1 // Purple // 400°F
- Setting 2 // Blue // 440°F
- Setting 3 // Cyan // 480°F
- Setting 4 // Orange // 500°F
- Setting 5 // White // 540 °F
I selected Cyan (teal blue) to start in hopes of tasting the most terpenes. With the carb cap, surrounding airflow, and even heating I had an extremely enjoyable toke. Upping the temperature to Orange, I got that wicked hot 2016 dab I often thirst for. Each temp offers a specific user experience, catering to the spectrum of dabbers.
My dabs were big enough based on how they affected me, but they never created enough vapor to fill the chamber. This confused my satisfaction levels because I’ve been trained to love big clouds. However, this is actually a testament to the capacity of the Switch2. It could take an enormous quantity of extract at once, and I intend to test that to the fullest once I secure some CBD or CBG concentrates. Too much THC could drive me into pure anxiety.

Dr. Dabber app truly sets the vibe
True customization comes in the app, available on iOS and Android stores. Download it, then use that browser to visit a Dr.Dabber site to create an account. Before getting down to the dab itself, set the mood using 16 different Light Modes. I liked Northern Lights, which shifts between purple, blue, and green. Eight of the selections move through colors, and eight are solid hues. The app also allows intensity adjustment, so people can turn the brightness to the max or turn it off altogether.
After that’s settled, customize the heating settings. The first option is to heat the number from 250-650°F. Slide right to instead select a temperature setting for the original presets. This page also allows you to choose whether to let the temp hold steady, ascend, or descend.
Slide one more time to find the light modes and Hold Time selector. The Switch2 is set to hold for 30 seconds but can be set anywhere from 10 seconds to 90. However, the app warns that any session over 60 seconds will deplete the battery. Once all of this is set, heat from a button placed conveniently on every page. A button appears during the session, allowing me to boost for an additional ten seconds, which I totally did.
The app homepage also indicates battery percentage, unit temperature, and how many dabs I have taken. If you consent to the full analytics, it will record your smoke stats. Keep in touch with your favorite temp, how many heating cycles your e-rig has run, the most cycles you’ve hit in a day, favorite heating profiles, and more.
While the privacy agreements related to the analytics may not be attractive to all, everyone can appreciate the fine-tuned temperature control offered in the Dr. Dabber app. The added functionality was icing on the cake for me. The Switch2 is something special.
Stoners may Switch2 this new e-rig
The Switch was not my favorite e-rig, but the Switch2 changed everything. It is no longer awkward and clunky but remains true to its solid nature. This second-generation dab technology massively improves every complaint that I had about its predecessor, earning my respect and potentially, a place in my regular cannabis consumption rituals.
Dr. Dabber has added a welcome addition to the world of electronic dab rigs. With added technology and clear customer listening skills, the Switch2 brings the veteran tech company to new heights.
