This weed strain is hard to find but worth the hunt

The Donkey Butter strain reigns alongside Cheetah Piss and Meat Breath as one of the funniest strain names. It turns out it has powerhouse effects with a memorable nose, too. The indica dominant variety has no relation to Mule Fuel, a Thug Pug Genetics creation, aside from animal derivatives being relatives. I tried a run at Donkey Butter by Freya Farm, a licensed Washington cultivator.

Donkey Butter was created by Exotic Genetix, but the breeder has since discontinued the strain. The Washington state breeder is also responsible for Black Mamba, Wonka Bars, and Cookies and Cream. This strain crosses Grease Monkey and Triple OG. Grease Monkey is a cross of GG4 and GSC, while the parents of Triple OG are Triangle Kush, Master Kush, and Yoda. These strains combined crafted Donkey Butter, a smooth, mellow strain with dense, stinky buds.

Donkey Butter strain smell, look, and taste

Dense buds, a unique aroma, and delightful flavor combine in the delicious Donkey Butter strain. The flowers are large to medium with densely packed calyxes. Buds appear bright to army green with light orange hairs and sparkling with trichomes.

This strain has one of my favorite bud structures in the Cannabacae genus. The buds are dense with a pointed top and the leaves have a wild flare. Each refuses to lie flat, creating a somewhat wild but controlled look. I love it.

As far as scent, many believe Donkey Butter isn’t the most delicious thing–but it was a delight to my senses. I got a face full of lime and musk with an air of clementine oranges at the tail end. The flavor leans more into the earthy spice but maintains a bit of clementine.

The aesthetic experience of Donkey Butter is more nuanced than the crass name implies. It has a layered scent and gorgeous bud structure with equally noteworthy effects.

Effects of Donkey Butter weed strain

Donkey Butter incites a mental stupor that many covet in an indica hybrid. I felt it first in the base of my neck immediately after hitting a freshly-packed bowl of Donkey Butter. That sensation dripped down to my heart space where I felt a relaxation and unfurling. Slowly, my crunched shoulders slid back, and my chest opened. Eventually, that seeping release makes it to the entire body for a present but not distracting body high.

Meanwhile, the brain is on a journey of its own. In the first moments when Donkey Butter hits me in the noggin, my thoughts are flying, but it all settles down in only a few minutes. In fact, it settles down a lot. This is not a strain I will smoke for focus or getting a task done as it mixed up all of my thoughts until they subdued like that pink Chicken McNugget goo. Once my thoughts mellowed out, my facial muscles relaxed, and my eyes drooped into the Donkey Butter vibe.

Despite being easily distracted or confused by things that may not be complex with a sober mind, I loved this weed variety.
