Rock legends, fine art, and cannabis sales – midwest festival has it all

Michigan surpassed California in cannabis sales this summer, and the state is flying high. Those in Detroit may celebrate at the Arts, Beats, & Eats Festival in Royal Oaks over the long Labor Day weekend. Like last year, the festival fun will include cannabis activations, sales, and a lounge thanks to House of Dank.

This is the second year for Dankland and the Dankway at Arts, Beats, & Eats, a spotlight on various art forms, music, and delicious food. Guests in the weed sections of the event can explore brand partners, learn about weed, and light up in the Dankway.

Dankway is in an alley outfitted with carbon filters to obscure smoke and scents from other patrons at the family-friendly party. Brand partners like Breeze, North Coast, Zootz, Mitten Extracts, and Amnesia Gardens will be on-site, answering questions and engaging with guests.

After enjoying some of Michigan’s finest, stroll a block down the road to the immersive Dankland performance stage and lounge. Those who enter the “Higher” themed space, complete with clouds, will enjoy celebrity appearances, live entertainment from the local circus troupe, and musical performances.

All the deets on Arts, Beats, & Eats

While the dank offerings alone may seem like a full day, it is a drop in the blocks-long Labor Day fest. The fun kicks off on Saturday and goes through the long weekend with fun for the whole family.

There will be local eats from over 50 restaurants, including vegan options, soul food, baked treats, Greek fare, Nigerian cuisine, Polish pierogies, and more. As for the beats and eats, those are stacked, too.

Patrons of the arts can visit the glassblowing demonstrations or check out the juried fine art show. Artists travel from around the country to take part in the festival. An extensive showing from painters, photographers, mixed media artists, jewelry, and those who work in other mediums is expected.

Enjoy music programming all day and after dark on 10 stages, each with a theme like world music (Flagstar Bank Stage) and R&B (Michigan Lottery Stage). This includes the Dankland House of Dank Stage, where DJ Chrome, based DJ TWIZT, and Detroit hip hopper Nick Ryan are a few of the names playing the weed-themed, bass-heavy area.

As for big names, this year, the festival booked acts like Cheap Trick, Gin Blossoms, and Keith Sweat, among dozens of others.

This Michigan festival has something for everyone, from the stoner uncle to the niece who loves crafts. Enjoy a weekend steeped in the best of the state, weed included. Tickets are $10 daily before 3 P.M. and $12 after that, there is a free shuttle available for those who want to avoid parking prices.
