I tried three alcohol-award-winning weed drinks

Fable drinks review: cans of Fable sit on bar cart

People have a rising interest in non-alcoholic beverages and cannabis, so it makes sense that the two combine into one can. Fable Drinks offers just that, with an added eye for sustainability and premium ingredients.

Fable began as a dream between Denver, Colo. partners who desired a non-alcoholic beverage with a slightly mind-altering experience. The pair set out, consulting a culinary council of chefs, mixologists, and food scientists to perfect three effervescent flavors.

“The ingredients are very considered, so give them time to open up. The drinks do change as you drink them as the spices open up. That’s all intentional,” CEO Ben Kennedy said to GreenState. “Ultimately we used ingredients that recreated the bite, burn and viscosity of a fine alcoholic drink, minus the alcohol.”

Cannabis drinks with premium ingredients

Into The Woods, Best Zest, and Night Flight make up the three-beverage line in the hemp THC market tested by ACT Labs in Michigan with lab results readily available online.

Each flavor uses real ingredients, which is proven by the sediment that may sit at the bottom of the can. I can taste this difference sipping through the trifecta of flavors. The delicately balanced pine, hibiscus, and pepper notes would not sit the same if added chemically. Flavors that distinct require fresh ingredients, in my opinion.

After trying each one I can attest that they in fact “open up” and evolve in a delightful way. GreenState tried them live and I definitely have my favorite, but the Fable line has proven it has something for everyone.

Into The Woods

The first flavor, Into The Woods, captures the musky essence of winter cold. Enter the experience with juicy peaches before tangled pine and wooded rosemary notes creep in. The “Woods,” as it’s called, is a unique flavor profile that stood out enough to garner the “best drink available in California” by The LA Times.

Best Zest

Many weed drink brands have an orange cardamom flavor like Fable’s Best Zest, this one stands apart with the inclusion of Szechuan peppercorn. The specialty seasoning hailing from Szechuan, China is known for its intense spice level and the tingling sensation it leaves in its wake.

This was the least favorite among GreenState staff as it fills the mouth with citrus that leans more toward rind than fruit. While the flavor is a bit intense on its own, it would be an excellent mocktail ingredient.

I was also a bit let down. I expected the most memorable aspect of this drink to be the tingling sensation advertised on the website. Unfortunately, I didn’t experience much tingle. The most tingling came from the Night Flight, probably because of the ginger.

Night Flight

The final flavor, Night Flight, embodies a winter wonderland with tart hibiscus and blackberries, spicy ginger, and soothing cucumber mint. These flavors marry into a sweet and juicy delight that is so beloved it was a double gold medal winner at the WSWA Access Live Awards held by the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America.

Fable Drinks review: Great flavors, robust high

Flavors are the crux of whether cannabis drinks flop or take off, but it is the cannabinoids that reign supreme. Hemp THC cans are 12 ounces, with five milligrams (mg) of THC and three mg of CBD. In the California adult-use market, cans contain seven mg of THC.

This combination may be mind-altering for some, but those who regularly consume more might find it a comfortable social dose. With a 12-ounce can, anyone can slowly sip their way through the THC based on their individual tolerance.

Fable Drinks can be enjoyed as is or used in cannabis mocktail recipes for an infused party cocktail or date night refreshment. I will definitely have them on hand when entertaining this holiday season. These ones are worth a try.
