New Fred Segal cannabis line promotes higher fashion

Fashion’s self-proclaimed “Curator of Cool” just got cooler with a new line of cannabis accessories. Before now, Fred Segal has collaborated here and there with cannabis companies. In 2022, they designed clothing for a celeb-backed dispensary. Before that, the Sunset store hosted a cannabis skincare popup. The latest collaboration is different, though. This time, HARA Brands-owned Hemper joined to create a line of Fred Segal weed accouterment.

Pieces from the Hemper x Fred Segal line are available on both brands’ websites and select Fred Segal stores. Each of the seven new products uses iconography from the days when the brand first launched.

“Born in 1961, Fred Segal has been at the forefront of cultural evolution, embodying the spirit of the counterculture movement,” Fred Segal owner Jeff Lotman said in a press release. “It’s only fitting that we curate a collection of stylish bongs and accessories, and we’re thrilled with the innovative designs crafted by Hemper.”

The line includes four ashtrays and three ceramic smoking devices. Each ashtray takes a unique shape, like a heart reading “POSITIVE VIBES” and a co-branded hand giving the peace sign. As for smoking, the release includes a pipe shaped like a peace sign, a heart hand pipe, a beaker-shaped bong, and another with a spherical water chamber. Everything mentioned is adorned in Fred Segal colors (white, navy blue, and red).

“Globally known as the Curator of Cool, Fred Segal changed retail and pop culture forever through fearless innovation, strategic partnerships, and vision of the future,” said Bryan Gerber, co-founder and CEO of HARA Brands. “This collaboration allows us to bring the Hemper brand to an exciting, new audience of like-minded consumers.”

Hemper is not a new name in the weed space. The company has created in-house pipes, bongs, and more for years. They’re also well-known for their carefully curated cannabis subscription boxes.

Though the Hemper team are veterans at this point, it’s their first collaboration with a big-name designer, marking another step towards normalizing cannabis. With their powers combined, the plant may reach all new heights. At the very least, those who try out the Fred Segal bongs will.
