How to get the most bud for your buck this Green Wednesday
When most people think of cannabis holidays, 4/20 is the first to come to mind. But there’s a new contender for the crown: Green Wednesday. On the day before Thanksgiving, more cannabis consumers are flocking to their regular dispensary or the dispensary in their hometown to stock up on weed to enjoy the night before the big feast (historically one of the biggest drinking nights of the year). But the cannabis consumption doesn’t stop on Wednesday. Many indulge before their Thanksgiving dinner or during, with edibles now available in most legal markets.

Cannabis sales skyrocket on Green Wednesday, making it one of the biggest shopping days of the year for the industry. Per Dutchie, a technology company working with thousands of dispensaries across the U.S., nearly all of its clients reported a significant increase in sales on Green Wednesday, 2023.
When you look at cannabis culture and the ethos of Thanksgiving, it makes sense that they would find common ground. On the surface, Thanksgiving is celebrated by food consumption, and weed and food often go hand-in-hand. But when you look at recent trends, the connection goes even deeper. More Americans are swapping alcohol for cannabis. Thanksgiving is the start of what can become a highly indulgent holiday season. So, ahead of Turkey Day, consumers are stocking up.

Now, let’s be real! Cannabis has always been at Thanksgiving. It was there when my cousin and I bonded over our post-dinner walk or when someone sneaked off to the garage to ‘check on the car. But now cannabis has a seat at the table. Cannabis beverages can sit next to cans of beer in the cooler and infused mocktails have a spot at the bar.
If you want to take advantage of the best Green Wednesday sales, you should stake out your local dispensaries as early as possible. By then, they should have started advertising the best discounts and specials. If you have the time, try to hit up multiple locations so you can score the best and most diverse discounts. Any cannabis beverages you bring to Thanksgiving Dinner will be properly marked per your state’s guidelines, but if you’re planning to bring any homemade treats, make sure they have a clear label and are locked up. You don’t want to give Grandma any surprises!
