Paris Couture Fashion Week is always a brilliant showcase of fashion’s biggest houses and some newcomers. There were notable highlights this year like the iconic Maison Margiela absolutely taking peoples’ breath away with an old-world glamor nightmare. Though Margiela is centerstage of most social media buzz, there were lots of emotive, ethereal collections.
A runway show always has themes and connecting elements, but couture adds more artistic flare and vision than a ready-to-wear collection. While scrolling through images of show after show and experiencing the textures, colors, and presentation–it’s hard not to feel inspired. In this case, GreenState felt inspired to pair some of the more memorable runways with our favorite strains.
Maison Margiela // Pure Michigan
The Maison Margiela runway was dark and foggy. The models were in porcelain doll makeup, shining and painted, or had their faces covered with their garments. Walks were broken. Models looked both like aliens walking in human form for the first time and someone wearing heels they couldn’t walk in. Corsets were as visible through sheer, flowing fabric as the probably faux pubic hair.
Pure Michigan is clearly Maison Margiela. It was created with the knowledge of genetics before it but with its own goal in mind. Neither was catering to the masses and still, both hit the mark.
New money American Illuminati was top of mind in the occult rhinestone cowboy Robert Wun show. Models walked an all-red runway, backdrop and all, in shining black or a red that bled right into its surroundings. Headpieces concealed the face. Looks were front and center while leaving something to the imagination.
The stunning confrontation of this show is reminiscent of the in-your-face terps found in Gas Face. It’s sumptuous and beautiful but also intense and thought-provoking.
AZ Factory // Holy Grail Kush
Newer fashion house AZ Factory brought a utilitarian flare to the week with a collection featuring feral furs and leathers with metals. Oversized outerwear is matched with dresses that defy how we view shape and movement. The runway matched the vibe perfectly, with limestone brick walls and minimal decor.
Holy Grail Kush was a natural choice to match this collection with its earthy tones and commanding presence.
Sara Chraibi // Lava Cake
The Paris Couture Sarah Chraibi show showcased ethereal looks. Flowing Grecian gowns, power suits, and structured futuristic dresses in jewel tones and neutrals pushes the envelope of boho chic.
Maybe it’s the color palette or the power emoted in the subtle, but thought-provoking show. The Lava Cake strain was a clear-cut pairing–it’s relaxing but also present.
Juana Martín // Rainbow Belts
Bright, white, futuristic looks graced the Juana Martín runway in Paris. Notes of silver adorned white or black satin, mesh, and sheer garments. There were also some pressed cane pieces sprinkled in. The runway featured a bright white spotlight at the very back, which added shadow and drama to each look.
Rainbow Belts strain is well matched with the Juana Martín show. The effect is seemingly neutral but with an extra special something.
Rahul Mishra // Green Crack
The Rahul Mishra collection inspires a gasp–it is beautiful. Inspired by the ancient serpent symbol, SUPERHEROES features heavily beaded pieces that are shining gold, glittering with light, and brilliantly executed. Mishra utilized new, exciting shapes in an obvious but abrasive way.
Both this collection and Green Crack provoke a lightened feeling. Bright dispositions and sparkling attitudes are abundant with both, making them a good match.
Schiaparelli // Jet Fuel
Schiaparelli deconstructed and reconstructed the concept of a dress in its couture show this year. The black, white, and tan color palettes matched with evocative textures and structures. Schiaparelli introduced sharpness to new spaces while softening the often sharp zones in a top three Paris Couture Spring/Summer 2024 collection.
There aren’t a lot of cannabis varieties that can match the veracity of Schiaparelli, but the Jet Fuel strain might. The indica strain features intense terpenes with intense effects.
Cannabis meets couture
Cannabis strains aren’t always the first thought when looking at fresh couture in Paris, but maybe it should be. These runways were exceptional, and these strains are too. Now go smoke one (responsibly), and check out the rest of the collections from last week.
