Jimmy Buffett’s final album features a cannabis carol

Jimmy buffett gummy song

Parrot Heads are celebrating one last hurrah from Jimmy Buffett, the famed singer-songwriter who passed away on September 1st. Three singles were recently released from the star’s posthumous album Equal Strain on All Parts, set to release November 3rd. The 14-track album includes a single entitled “My Gummie Just Kicked In,” an ode to edibles featuring Paul McCartney.

“It is a privilege to welcome Jimmy Buffett among the legends who have released their music through Sun Records,” said Dominic Pandiscia, Chief Strategy Officer of Primary Wave/Sun Label Group said in a press release, “Jimmy’s music truly stands for something – as does the Sun Records legacy – and having this album join that lineage is a special moment that honors his enduring impact.”

Like famed songs “Margaritaville” and “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” the cannabis carol gives the listener that quintessential Buffett-approved license to chill. The chorus of “Don’t know where I’m going / Don’t know where I’ve been / All I know for certain is / My gummy just kicked in” pops up after lyrics detailing the jovial ride a cannabis gummy can evoke.

Paul McCartney played bass on the track inspired by his wife Nancy’s experience with a cannabis gummy at a dinner party. Nancy stumbled as she walked to the table to join Buffett, his wife Jane, and her husband. Buffett noticed and asked if she was alright.

Her response? “Oh no – I’m fine… my gummy just kicked in.” The rock stars looked at each other among the ensuing laughs and joked that they’d write a song about it. They did just that.

The former Beatle felt blessed to have played on the track. He shared on social media after his friend’s passing, “I was very happy to have played on one of his latest songs called ‘My Gummy Just Kicked In’. We had a real fun session and he played me some of his new songs.”

“My Gummie Just Kicked In” is one of three singles released on Equal Strain on All Parts. Fans can also listen to “Like My Dog” and “Bubbles Up” on digital listening platforms.

“Bubbles Up” was a favorite of McCartney, whose social media tribute continued to commend the artistry of the single:

“He turned a diving phrase that is used to train people underwater into a metaphor for life when you’re confused and don’t know where you are just follow the bubbles – they’ll take you up to the surface and straighten you out right away.”

The full album, which also features icons like Emmylou Harris, Angelique Kidjo, and Lennie Gallant, will be available on November 3rd. Until then, enjoy Buffett’s realistic take on the experience of popping an infused gummy during a night by the ocean with friends.
