New Year’s Eve is a night known for debauchery. Nowhere is that more evident than CNN. In recent years, news anchor Anderson Cooper and talk show host Andy Cohen have gone viral for their live and (very) tipsy NYE coverage. Perched above Times Square, the buddies take shots with celebrities and count down to midnight. This year, the pair got the inside scoop on famed DJ Diplo’s brand of New Year’s celebration—and surprising no one, it involves psychedelics.

Diplo is a known fan of lysergic acid diethylamide, aka LSD. He previously claimed he ran the Los Angeles Marathon while under the influence. Cohen’s cheeky interview style simply had to allude to the artist’s penchant for acid on his silliest night of the year.
During their conversation, Cohen asked Diplo, “Where’s the most conventional place that you’ve done LSD?” The DJ, reporting from Los Angeles ahead of a gig at the Avalon Nightclub, chuckled and said, “Right now.”
Cohen and Anderson burst into laughter as Diplo added he took some acid in the helicopter.
“I’m not lying,” Diplo said into the camera.
“You’re tripping right now?!” Cohen exclaimed, barely able to contain himself.

The popular DJ and producer noted he was on a “light trip” but may have macrodosed earlier in the day. Cooper then asked, “How do we look to you right now? As weird as we do in real life?”
After being shown a live feed of the duo, Diplo said, “You guys look beautiful!”
Cohen then asked what form factor Diplo dosed, wondering if he utilized LSD breath spray. The DJ said he preferred liquid drops.
A clip of the interview quickly went viral, garnering tens of thousands of likes in a matter of hours. Diplo’s deadpan admission, along with Cohen and Cooper’s ecstatic reaction, exemplify what fans have come to love about CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live. Anything can happen on this telecast—and probably will. A couple of years ago, Cohen half-joked he had a pocket full of edibles. Perhaps someday, he’ll quip about having a vial of L—time will only tell.
